Leigh Bardugo was born in Jerusalem, Israel, and grew up in Los Angeles, California. She worked in the publishing industry before she decided to become an author. Since her first novel in 2012, she has written six additional novels about the Grishaverse, as well as three related books with short stories and information about her fictional world. In 2019, Netflix began shooting the show on location mainly in Hungary. The first season was released in 2021 on Netflix, with season two out in March 2023.
