Based on the true story of two giraffes that were transported across the United States during the 1930s, West with Giraffes is a novel about a one-of-a-kind journey. The book starts with Woodrow Wilson Nickel, a 105-year-old man, who learns that the Earth’s wild animals are under threat from humans. He is deeply troubled by this. He thinks about his own life and how he once delivered two giraffes from New York City all the way to the San Diego Zoo in California.
