The country of Egypt in northeastern Africa is famous as a tourist spot. The ancient pyramids are its most famous attraction, but not the only one. The White Desert, located about 370 km southwest of Cairo, has recently been gaining popularity with adventure travelers. The desert gets its name from the large white rocks and white sand drifts that have been formed by many years of erosion and weathering. Like many parts of the Earth, this area was once underwater.
