J.K. Rowling' s inspiration for The Christmas Pig came from her son. He had a favorite toy that he couldn' t sleep without. Rowling had always been worried about the possibility of the toy going missing. She knew how getting a replacement toy would not quite feel the same as the original one. This made her wonder what it would be like to be a replacement toy, and she began to imagine the Land of the Lost.
