Hot-air balloons are truly full of hot air. The pilot uses the burner to control the temperature of the air inside the envelope. If the pilot increases the flame and heats more air, the balloon will rise higher. However, the pilot cannot really control which direction the balloon flies because the balloon is pushed by the wind. This means that a pilot must understand the wind conditions for that day and pay attention to the weather.
