　　Since the beginnings of theater and film, racial stereotypes have been common in Western countries. Yellowface is the practice in which white actors are made to look Asian by using theatrical makeup. Worse than the makeup itself, portrayals of Asian people were generally negative. This led to the unfriendly treatment of minorities, especially in the United States. In the early days of Hollywood, most Asian actors could only play supporting roles that were neither positive nor attractive.

　　自从戏剧和电影出现以来，种族刻板印象在西方国家就很常见。黄脸是指白人演员透过戏剧妆效让自己看起来像亚洲人的做法。比化妆本身更糟糕的是，对亚洲人的描绘普遍是负面的。这导致了少数族裔受到不友善的对待，尤其是在美国。在好莱坞早期，大部分亚洲演员只能扮演既不正面又没有吸引力的配角。
