In 2017, the government also made a new law that no longer allowed shelters to kill animals that didn’t get adopted. Even though this saves animals’ lives, it means there are even more animals living in shelters. Fortunately, the larger new shelters can provide more space for the strays. More importantly, people will be more likely to adopt animals because the new shelters are more pleasant to visit. Some shelters, such as the one in Kaohsiung’s Yanchao District, even have a space where people can spend time with the pets before adopting them.
